Three people, including a six-year-old boy, were killed and another injured early Saturday when a car slammed into a parked lorry on the Soesdyke–Linden Highway near Loo Creek, police said.

The dead were identified as Marenzo Campbell, 6, Shelly Joseph, 26, and Keiron Wells, 25, all of Hyde Park, Timehri. The driver, 26-year-old Mairo Campbell, was hospitalised with serious injuries, including a dislocated foot and an eye injury.

Police said the lorry had been parked without reflectors after a tyre blew out, and the car, travelling north at high speed, crashed into its rear.

Investigators said the lorry driver was not licensed to operate that class of vehicle. A breathalyser test found no trace of alcohol.

The bodies were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex mortuary pending autopsies.
