Recovery efforts following the tragic sinking of the MV Barima remain ongoing as authorities continue an intensive search operation at sea while providing support to grieving families on shore.

Deep-diving operations are continuing at the site of the wreck as specialist teams work beneath the water in the hope of locating those who remain unaccounted for. The operation remains challenging due to underwater conditions, but search teams continue their efforts without pause.

Authorities have confirmed that five recovered bodies are still awaiting identification, as the painstaking process of confirming the identities of the victims continues.

Meanwhile, the emergency command centres established at Charity and Suddie remain fully operational, serving as the main hubs for coordinating search and recovery efforts, disseminating information, and providing assistance to relatives of victims.

President Dr Irfaan Ali has remained at the Charity Command Centre, where he continues to meet with families affected by the tragedy, offering comfort and receiving regular updates from emergency response officials overseeing the operation.

Family members of several crew members are currently at Charity, also hoping to hear news on their missing relatives.

As the search continues, communities across Guyana remain united in prayer and solidarity, holding onto hope while mourning the lives lost in one of the country’s most devastating maritime disasters. This evening another candlelight vigil is planned at Onderneeming, remembering those who lost their lives in the MV Barima disaster.
