With just over three weeks to go before Guyana’s General and Regional Elections, the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) on Thursday called on political parties, stakeholder groups, and citizens to promote peace, tolerance, and stability during the election period.
THAG urged all Guyanese to act with restraint and maturity in the lead-up to, during, and after the elections, warning that heightened emotions often accompany the electoral season.
“Let us work together to ensure Guyana remains a safe and welcoming destination—for ourselves and for all visitors, whether they are here for business or leisure,” the association said in a statement.
THAG also pointed to preparations already underway for 2026, when Guyana will celebrate 60 years of independence. The group noted that some hotels are already fully booked and tour plans are in motion.
“We have much to explore, unite, and celebrate in 2026,” the statement said. “But this will only be possible if we protect the peace and stability that allow our people and our tourism industry to thrive,” it added.
