The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Guyana’s general and regional elections today deployed 14 long-term observers (LTOs) across all 10 regions of the country.
“Long-term observers are the backbone of our mission. Their work on the ground will provide essential information and insights, forming the basis of our impartial and fact-based assessment of the electoral process,” Deputy Chief Observer Vania Anguelova said during a media briefing at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre.
The EU EOM follows a robust and well-established methodology of long-term, nationwide observation, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive analysis of the entire electoral process, a release said.
Observers have been deployed in multinational teams of two and will closely follow key aspects of the election at the regional level. Each team will meet and engage with key electoral stakeholders across all 10 regions of Guyana, including voters, election officials, political parties, civil society representatives, and media.
Their findings will complement the analysis of the EU EOM core team experts based in Georgetown.
Before deployment, the long-term observers received comprehensive briefings on the electoral process, the political environment, the legal framework, and the media and social context in Guyana.
As election day approaches, the mission will be reinforced by 20 short-term observers. Together with the LTOs and other members of the mission, they will observe voting, counting, and the tabulation of results.
This mission was deployed at the invitation of the Government of Guyana. It is led by Chief Observer Robert Biedroń, who launched the mission at a press conference in Georgetown on August 1, 2025.
The EU EOM will present its preliminary findings in a public statement two days after the election, followed by a final report, including recommendations for improving the electoral process, which will be published after the completion of the entire process.
