A family in Crabwood Creek, Region Six, is grappling with unimaginable grief after an 8-year-old child, Sahil Naipaul, was struck and killed by a speeding car on Tuesday afternoon.
The vehicle, bearing license plate PAK 6593, was reportedly driven by a 21-year-old man from the neighbouring village of Grant 1803. He is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
The child was in the company of his stepfather, returning home from a nearby errand when the tragic incident occurred.
According to Sahil’s mother, 24-year-old Devi Ramkissoon, she was at home cooking when she received a devastating call from a neighbour.
“Me neighbour call me and tell me that me son in the trench, he get accident. When I come out, I see me son in the trench. I start to pick it up and start holla. I’m so sad. That’s my second son. He already died in the water ‘cause he was not breathing. Mud was in his mouth, he foot break, he hand break, and he went in the trench,” the grieving mother said.
She further explained that the vehicle fled the scene but was later intercepted by police at Moleson Creek after taking several backstreets. The heartbroken mother is now demanding justice.
“I want justice for my son. I don’t want no settlement concerning burial. I will do everything myself, me and he father, we ain’t want nothing else,” she said.
Adding to the weight of her grief, the mother disclosed that this is the second son she has lost—the first passing away just three years ago.
