Region Two is nearing a major healthcare milestone as the Lima Regional Hospital approaches completion. The modern, state-of-the-art facility, now in its final stages, is expected to significantly improve medical care for thousands of residents across the Essequibo Coast and surrounding communities.

Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony visited the site on Friday to assess progress and expressed satisfaction with the work. He said the hospital will improve access to healthcare by reducing the need for patients to travel to Georgetown for critical services.

The facility is designed to provide comprehensive care, including in-patient and out-patient services, diagnostic testing, an operating theatre, emergency care and a range of specialised clinics. Equipped with advanced medical technology, it will function as a regional hub offering timely and high-quality treatment.

“The Lima Regional Hospital will transform healthcare delivery in Region Two,” Anthony said. “It is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to providing accessible, reliable, and top-tier medical services to all Guyanese,” he added.

Residents are looking forward to the hospital’s opening. “We are happy for such a facility—it will bring positive change to our region. Our government is doing well, and we are thankful for this intervention by President Irfaan Ali’s administration,” said a resident of the Essequibo Coast.

Regional Health Officer Dr. Ranjeev Singh said the hospital will enhance the region’s capacity for advanced treatment, serving both coastal and hinterland communities.

The Lima Regional Hospital is scheduled to be commissioned in the coming weeks. Authorities say it represents not only new infrastructure but also progress and a promise of better health for the people of Region Two.
