Emotions soared as Mahdia (Movements Family) claimed victory over the Avinash All-Stars in a thrilling final to secure the Essequibo Zone title of the Kares One Guyana T10 Tapeball Blast over the weekend.
The match, held under the lights at the Anna Regina Ground, saw Mahdia emerge victorious, taking home a prize of $300,000, while the Avinash All-Stars received $100,000. With this win, Mahdia have also qualified for the national playoffs.
Mahdia set a target of 112-9, and their bowlers displayed remarkable discipline, restricting the star-studded Avinash All-Stars to 104-5.
Notably, West Indies player Kyle Mayers shone with an impressive 53 runs off 25 balls, but Mahdia’s bowling attack, led by captain Raydon Austin—who took 2 wickets for 11 runs—proved too strong.
Earlier in the match, Mahdia’s innings benefited from a crucial 40 runs scored in just 16 balls, despite solid bowling performances from Ronsford Beaton and Ameer Mohamed of Avinash.
With the zone champions now determined, the national semi-finals are set to take place at the National Stadium in Providence on August 3. Defending champions Titans All-Stars will face Mahdia in the first semi-final, followed by a match between Montra Jaguars and Eccles All-Stars.
The day will also feature a female exhibition match, leading into the semi-finals and culminating in the grand final, where teams will compete for a substantial $1.7 million grand prize.
