Businessman drops case against Venezuelan woman accused of theft

Yusmelis Solis

A Mon Repos businessman on Monday informed the court that he no longer wished to proceed with a criminal case against a Venezuelan woman who had been charged with break and enter and larceny in connection with a reported theft of millions in cash from his home.

As a result, the matter was dismissed against Yusmelis Solis, a 23-year-old Venezuelan national and nail technician of Phase One, Good Hope, East Coast Demerara.

Solis was arrested last Tuesday and charged later that week by a rank from the Beterverwagting Police Station. The charge was laid under Section 229(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 08:01.

She was accused of breaking into the home of 43-year-old Vickram Singh between July 19 and 20, 2025, and stealing $3,500,000 Guyana dollars and US$2,850.

When Solis appeared before Her Worship Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, the charge was read to her through an interpreter. She pleaded not guilty.

However, Singh told the court he did not wish to proceed, leading to the dismissal of the case.
