Nicolette Fernandes and Daniel Ince showcased their remarkable talents at the National Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue on Saturday evening, capturing the Women’s and Men’s National Elite titles, respectively, in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The 42-year-old Fernandes delivered a dominant performance, defeating 31-year-old Mary Fung-a-Fat with scores of 11-8, 11-0, and 11-5. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Daniel Ince faced off against his 21-year-old cousin, Samuel Ince-Carvalhal, in a thrilling match that ended with Daniel winning 12-10, 11-4, and 12-10.
The Men’s Elite final capped off an exciting 2025 ENet Senior National Championships, which also highlighted emerging talent. Daniel, who represented Guyana at the 2022 Senior CASA, demonstrated his experience, while Samuel impressed with his skill—especially during a lengthy 30-shot rally that Daniel ultimately won.
The match was closely contested, with Daniel securing the final point to claim his first National title, prompting a standing ovation from the audience as the cousins embraced.
In the Women’s Elite final, Fernandes—who previously won Guyana’s only gold medal at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games—proved too strong for Mary, a professional circuit player. This victory marks Fernandes’ 12th National title, further cementing her legacy as squash royalty in Guyana.
