Roraima Airways today commissioned two new Technam P2012 twin-engine aircraft, marking a significant upgrade to Guyana’s domestic aviation fleet.

The commissioning ceremony was held at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport in Ogle, East Coast Demerara, and was attended by Public Works Minister Juan Edghill, who has oversight of the aviation sector. He emphasised that the addition aligns with President Irfaan Ali’s objective of positioning Guyana as a regional leader in aviation infrastructure, safety, and passenger comfort.

The minister noted that the government is advancing a multifaceted strategy that includes updating legislation, strengthening institutional capacity, acquiring modern aircraft, and enhancing safety and security standards. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand airstrip infrastructure in the hinterland to accommodate more aircraft and increased traffic.

The Italian-manufactured P2012 aircraft feature modern navigational systems, onboard WiFi, and air conditioning. Their high-speed twin engines are designed to perform efficiently across the varied terrain and challenging conditions of Guyana’s interior regions.

Captain Gerry Gouveia Jr., Director of Roraima Airways, described the investment as a reflection of the company’s confidence in Guyana’s development path and its commitment to elevating the domestic travel experience.

European Union Ambassador to Guyana René Van Nes, Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Lt. Col. Egbert Field, and Chief Investment Officer at the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, were also present. They welcomed the fleet expansion as a key step in modernizing the country’s aviation sector.

Since January 2021, 13 aircraft have been added to the national registry, indicating steady growth in the industry.
