Round-the-clock work introduced to get East Bank road expansion back on track

President Ali meeting with the contractor and team

Work on the East Bank Public Road rehabilitation and expansion project is now being carried out on a 24-hour basis as the contractor moves to speed up progress on the key transport corridor.

President Dr Irfaan Ali met on Wednesday with contractor China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC), consultant Sheladia Associates Inc., and project engineers at State House, where he urged that delays be addressed and the works brought back on schedule.

The project is about 62 per cent complete, below the expected 78 per cent at this stage, officials said. In response, the contractor said additional crews will be deployed from June 20, 2026, particularly at the extreme ends of the project, to accelerate construction.

Ali also instructed that completed subsurface works be fully finished and that encumbrances and access to residents’ properties be resolved expeditiously.

The project, which is expected to be completed before Christmas, is intended to improve traffic flow along the East Bank corridor and reduce travel time to and from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
