Businessman and political figure Azruddin Mohamed has been accused of attempting to obstruct the course of justice in relation to a criminal assault case involving Bradley ‘Doggy’ Sampson, a key organiser in Mohamed’s political party, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN).
According to a police report, the allegation stems from a complaint made by a 29-year-old Sales Representative from McDoom, who reported being assaulted by Sampson after a dispute over unpaid wages for work done on Nominations Day for the WIN party.
The woman claimed Sampson attacked her on July 15 at the Square of the Revolution, beating and striking her with a firearm. The incident was caught on video and widely circulated online.
She further alleged that she was later summoned to Mohamed’s Green Field, East Bank Demerara residence, where she was detained by armed guards for over an hour. While there, Mohamed allegedly offered her $500,000 to drop the charges against Sampson and instructed her to tell police she no longer wished to pursue the matter. She also claimed she was threatened by a guard who showed her a firearm and referenced her home address.
The woman reported the matter to police, and a medical examination confirmed her injuries. A wanted bulletin was issued for Sampson. On July 17, Mohamed turned himself in at the Ruimveldt Police Station with his attorney and is assisting with the investigation.
