Former Member of Parliament Tabitha Sarabo-Halley, who previously served under the APNU coalition, has announced her candidacy with the newly formed We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party led by controversial businessman Azruddin Mohamed.
Sarabo-Halley, who once held ministerial responsibilities during the APNU+AFC administration, said her decision to break ranks and join WIN reflects a growing sentiment among voters who, she claims, are ready to abandon the country’s decades-old political status quo.
“The people are choosing something different,” Sarabo-Halley told reporters after her candidacy was confirmed on Nominations Days. “People have decided that what existed for the last 50 years is not working for them. They want to see something deeper, something new, and they’re hoping with that new thing they’ll finally get what they truly deserve as citizens.”
When pressed about Mohamed’s political inexperience and the controversy surrounding the US Treasury Department’s sanctions against him, Sarabo-Halley maintained that the focus should remain on voters’ desire for alternatives.
“Those are all reasonable questions,” she acknowledged. “But I am here because the people are making a choice. My duty is to support them on that road. They want leaders who will fight to ensure they get what they deserve.”
Sarabo-Halley did not directly address whether Mohamed’s sanction designation could affect WIN’s viability but insisted that the movement represents citizens’ growing frustration with the traditional parties.
“People are tired of being told to wait their turn and getting the same results,” she added. “They are choosing to back someone new and I am here to work for them.”
The WIN party, which Mohamed launched earlier this year, has drawn both criticism and curiosity in the run-up to the 2025 General and Regional Elections.
