President Dr Irfaan Ali today announced plans to establish a portal that will allow citizens to have instant access to their bank account, as part of a broader digital transformation agenda.
Speaking at the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C)’s campaign launch at Kitty Market Square, Ali said the initiative would enable citizens to conduct financial transactions with ease.
“We will establish a portal that will allow citizens to have instant access to their bank account… you can stay at home with a card and do all your financial transactions from your bed,” he told supporters.
Ali also said the government would create opportunities for small investors in the oil and gas sector and outlined several initiatives to modernise public services, including electronic health records and kiosk-based renewals for driver’s licences.
He further committed to investing heavily in human capital development and building facilities to support sports, entertainment, and tourism.
“We are going to give them not only the best facility, but we are going to invest in having the best trainers, the best coaches,” Ali said. “We are going to graduate our coaches that we have right now to higher level.”
He said the plan also includes constructing an indoor arena for international events and a state-of-the-art gallery in Georgetown.
