With the highly anticipated Global T20 Guyana Super League (GSL) just days away from its opening match on July 10, the buzz around one of Guyana’s biggest sporting events is reaching fever pitch.
Last evening, players, sponsors, and media representatives gathered at Tribe Gastronomic Lounge on Church Street for the tournament’s official Welcome Party, hosted by ExxonMobil Guyana, the event’s title sponsor.
The evening brought together cricket enthusiasts and key stakeholders for a night of celebration ahead of what is being touted as a milestone in Guyana’s sports history. Players from the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW), including Gudakesh Motie, Romario Shepherd, and Amir Jangoo were on hand to mingle with guests and take photos. Team captain Imran Tahir also made an appearance, expressing confidence in the Warriors’ preparations and the team’s drive to make a statement on home soil.
The Amazon Warriors have been undergoing intensive training, with a clear focus on delivering a dominant performance in front of local crowds at the Providence National Stadium.
The GSL promises to showcase a dynamic mix of international stars and local talent, delivering high-energy matches and a world-class cricketing experience. Organisers are expecting large fan turnouts, boosted tourism, and increased economic activity across sectors such as hospitality, transport, and entertainment.
Beyond the boundaries of cricket, the league aims to position Guyana as a premier destination for global sports and entertainment, providing long-term opportunities for business growth, investment, and international media exposure.
The opening match is set to kick off this Thursday, marking the start of what is expected to be a transformative chapter in Guyana’s sporting landscape.
