Barbados left no room for error against Guyana, securing a decisive victory by 140 runs as the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 50-over competition commenced on Thursday in St Kitts and Nevis.

Batting first, Barbados posted a formidable total of 287 for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 50 overs. The standout performances came from Joshua Dorne and Zachary Carter, with impressive half-centuries of 63 and 62 runs respectively.

Romeo Deonarain bowled economically for Guyana, taking one wicket for just 12 runs. However, the rest of the bowling attack struggled to contain the Barbadian batsmen, with Golcharran Chulai, Parmeshwar Ram, Riyad Latif, and Jonathan Van Lange conceding a combined total of 212 runs.

In response, Guyana’s innings was severely hindered by the relentless Barbadian bowling attack, which dismantled their batting line-up for a mere 147 runs in just 31.3 overs.

Shamar Apple was the top scorer for Guyana with 38 runs, while Afraz Ali Budhoo and Romeo Deonarain contributed 23 and 19 runs respectively. R’Jai Gittens was the star with the ball for Barbados, claiming four wickets for just 25 runs.

Guyana’s next outing will be against the USA on Sunday.
