President Dr. Irfaan Ali today announced the upcoming launch of an electronic traffic management system aimed at easing congestion and improving road safety in high-traffic areas across Guyana.

The announcement came during the official commissioning of the new Ogle to Eccles highway, which strengthens the connection between the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda. It will feature an integrated network of traffic cameras and digital roadside screens that provide real-time traffic updates and route guidance to commuters.

“We are going to interconnect cameras in high-traffic areas to establish what we call an ‘E-traffic management’ system,” President Ali said.

The smart system will also be integrated with mobile technology, enabling drivers to access real-time traffic conditions and suggested alternate routes on their devices.

By allowing data-driven traffic control and providing commuters with up-to-the-minute information, the system aims to ease congestion, reduce travel times and improve the overall commuting experience.
