A Berbice family is calling for justice following the mysterious death of 22-year-old Stacy Walton, whose body was found in a partially submerged car in a trench along the Number 7 Public Road, Region Six, last Saturday.
Police say Walton had reportedly been drinking earlier in the night when she lost control of her vehicle, veered off the road, and ended up in a trench. She was found unconscious but still strapped in with her seatbelt. Stacy was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, her grieving parents are now questioning the official version of events, saying there’s more to their daughter’s death than just an accident.
“I would like to have justice for my daughter because what I see is not just drowning. She had a lot of marks on her body — that’s not just drowning alone. It’s heart-rending. Nobody knows the pain we’re going through,” the grieving mother of the deceased, Kate Walton, said.
According to Kate, if her daughter was speeding, the damage would have been different, and the car did not even go under water. She could have survived until help came, the mother said. She also related that earlier she was told that Stacy’s boyfriend attempted to rescue her from the car, but now the family is hearing that it was a public-spirited citizen and not him.
Stacy’s parents also revealed that she and her boyfriend had an argument earlier that night.
Her father, Rawl Walton, after viewing the post-mortem, shared disturbing details.
“I looked at Stacy and saw bruises on her back and side. There was a puncture wound with blood, her hand was swollen, and her face had marks — signs of violence. Yes, the PM said she drowned, but many things could have happened before that. She could have been hit, strangled, then left to drown. We need justice for our child,” he said.
The family is pleading with investigators to look deeper into the case.
