Twenty-four political parties have submitted electoral symbols to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) ahead of the country’s upcoming General and Regional Elections.
The submissions, received by the June 23 deadline, were in response to a public notice inviting parties seeking to contest the elections to submit their proposed symbols for official approval.
GECOM said it will review and decide on the submitted symbols at a meeting scheduled for July 1. Parties will be notified of the outcomes immediately after the Commission completes its review.
Under electoral regulations, political parties must submit their official Lists of Candidates along with the approved symbol on Nomination Day, set for July 14.
The Commission said it remains committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure preparedness for what it described as a “critical statutory timeline” in the electoral process.
Guyana’s general and regional elections are constitutionally due in 2025.
