Former APNU campaign manager confirms coalition SoPs showed it lost 2020 elections

Former member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Samuel Sandy, has dropped a bombshell—stating that the A Partnership For National Unity (APNU) lost the 2020 elections.

This contradicts long-standing claims by the APNU-Alliance For Change (AFC), which for five years has insisted it possesses Statements of Poll (SoPs) proving it won the elections.

The APNU+AFC has never produced those SoPs.

Speaking on the most recent episode of the programme Starting Point, Sandy—who was the APNU’s Operations Manager for its East Coast Campaign—noted that he was responsible for collecting all SoPs and took it upon himself to record the totals.

Sandy, who had been with the party for 20 years and served on its Central Executive Committee, claims he also took photos of his tabulations, which he said contradicted the numbers declared by former Region Four Returning Officer, Clairmont Mingo.

“I’ll categorically state that in 2020, the APNU+AFC lost the elections. I was the Operations Manager for the East Coast Campaign. I was responsible for collecting all SoPs and I did take it upon myself to record the scores of every SOP received. I took pictures, I kept them. I still have them. I went to the Ashmins building, I listened to the numbers being tabulated, I looked at my numbers and I thought to myself, where might this be going,” Sandy said.

He noted that in coming clean, he chose personal integrity over supporting the hopes of a large section of society, stating that he challenges anyone to prove otherwise.

“It was more about me choosing between personal integrity and a large group of people hanging on to hope that this will bring home the victory. I’m a young person, new to this level of responsibility. There isn’t any fall back for me. I live in Golden Grove. I live in the stronghold of the PNC. How can I go home and say, ‘hey, I just informed them that the numbers declared weren’t the actual numbers that I shared with a party,’” Sandy explained.

He continued by stating that he had always been afraid to speak out, but has since made peace with himself.

Sandy further claimed that even in his letter to current party leader Aubrey Norton, he begged him to be honest with the people of Guyana and admit that the party lost the election.

He noted that from his observation at the time, former President David Granger had no idea what was happening, and opined that if he had known, he would not have agreed to a recount.
