Expanded T10 Tape Ball tournament launched

Guyana’s premier T10 Tape Ball tournament has officially expanded, with over 1,200 players across 80 teams now competing in a single-elimination format.
The event was launched on Saturday, June 14, at cricketer Ramnaresh Sarwan’s restaurant, RS53Etkzo, and marks a major step forward in both sporting development and national cohesion.
Zones include Berbice, East Bank, and West Bank Demerara—each consisting of 16 teams—and a combined Georgetown and East Coast zone with 32 teams. Winning teams from each zone will head to the national finals at Providence Stadium. Champions will receive $2 million, with runners-up taking $300,000 and a trophy.
Guyana has also joined the International Tape Ball Council, and this year’s winning team will represent the country at the next regional tournament.
Public Works Minister Deodat Indar, delivering the keynote speech, underscored the tournament’s significance as more than sport, calling it “a vehicle for youth development, regional unity, and upward mobility.” He credited government efforts, led by President Irfaan Ali, in upgrading grounds, infrastructure, and ensuring community participation from every region.
FL Sports CEO Jon Ramsingh confirmed that a female tape ball tournament will debut next year, beginning with four teams, aligning with President Ali’s directive for gender inclusivity.
Major sponsors including KFC, Pairs, and Duress have returned—a sign of sustained value and visibility. Minister Indar praised organisers for securing repeat sponsorship, calling it “a clear indicator of the tournament’s growing credibility.”
With Guyana now poised as a regional leader in tape ball, this tournament reflects a transformative moment in local sport—blending community pride, national support, and international ambition.
