Coach Cameron lauds 3×3 training camp in Paraguay

Guyanese basketball coach Willon Cameron has lauded the ongoing Under-23 high-performance 3×3 training camp in Paraguay as a game-changing opportunity for Guyana’s young basketball talents.

The camp is part of a developmental push ahead of the upcoming Junior Pan American Games. It brings together elite players from across the continent to sharpen their skills, enhance team chemistry, and learn from some of South America’s best in the fast-paced 3×3 format.

Cameron noted that the opportunity is one that he is not taking lightly.

“There is definitely a lot to be learned. A lot has been taught so far and you know I’m excited about the opportunity to soak in as much as possible. Especially with 3×3 we know it’s still basketball but you know 3 on 3 has its own nuances and so on about it, so it’s really wonderful learning about it and being able to study the high-level teams,” he said.

The participation of the Guyanese team follows a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, aimed at deepening sports collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two nations.

Among the players, Anish Ramlall stands out with his NCAA Division II experience at St. Cloud State University, while Domitre Ranking and Stephen George continue to shine locally with the Colts and Amelia’s Ward Jets, respectively. Kwakwani’s Arren Vanlewin, a rising force for the Untouchables, adds further depth to the squad. Cameron noted that the players are learning as well.

“The guys are enjoying the time. We got Anish from the US with us. You know I am seeing him in action for the first time and he’s a really, really good asset to the team; and you know the local guys are pushing themselves as much as possible and showing that they have the talent to compete at this level,” Cameron told Ignite News.

The camp concludes on Friday.
