Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector is set to receive a significant boost with the upcoming completion of the 172-room Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, currently under construction in Houston, East Bank Demerara.
The project, led by Tama Investments LLC, has an estimated total cost of US$33.3 million. The modern hotel is scheduled for completion in August and is expected to employ at least 100 people, 80 per cent of whom will be Guyanese.
Once completed, the hotel will feature a restaurant, outdoor pool, bars, meeting space, and a retail area.
President Dr Irfaan Ali visited the construction site on Wednesday morning for an inspection tour. During the visit, he was informed that 10 Amerindian women from the village of Santa Aratak are earning income through the sale of local crafts, which will be showcased to thousands of visitors.
“This is fantastic,” President Ali said. “There will be an entire section dedicated to Indigenous work, arts and culture—everything Guyana. This is another key aspect that the designers were able to incorporate, having that Indigenous and artistic identity.”
The project supports the government’s plan to add at least 2,000 hotel rooms as part of the country’s broader economic expansion strategy. It is also expected to contribute to the development of sports tourism.
A large housing scheme will be developed along the hotel corridor, significantly enhancing the surrounding landscape. In addition, hubs for local shops will be created in the area.
