The Ministry of Education has launched its EdYou FM National Radio Distribution Campaign, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening educational access in Guyana’s hinterland regions.

The official launch took place on Thursday, May 22, during the National Toshaos Council (NTC) Conference, where Minister of Education, the Honourable Priya Manickchand, presented the first radio set to the Chairman of the NTC.

In a press statement issued by the Ministry , it was explained that this launch symbolised the Ministry’s commitment to bridging the education gap through increased access to quality content.

The campaign, led by the Ministry’s Distance Education Unit, will provide classrooms in remote communities with radio sets capable of receiving curriculum-aligned educational programming.

Minister Manickchand noted that the initiative is part of the Ministry’s wider vision for inclusive education, stating that it seeks to bring quality teaching to areas often challenged by distance and accessibility.

Mr. Phillip Williams, Head of EdYou FM, expressed gratitude to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for supporting the initiative.

“This project is a testament to what is possible when technology, education, and partnership intersect. The distribution campaign is not just about radios—it’s about ensuring the equitable access to resources that every Guyanese child deserves,” he said.

EdYou FM serves as the Ministry of Education’s official radio station under the Distance Education Unit, delivering curriculum-based content across all ten administrative regions.

With more than 20 relay sites, the station ensures that even Guyana’s most remote communities can benefit from continued access to learning.
