Indian Member of Parliament Dr. Shashi Tharoor is set to visit Guyana on 24 May 2025. He will lead a cross-party Indian delegation as part of “Operation Sindoor,” a diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening global partnerships and countering terrorism narratives.
Dr. Tharoor’s delegation includes nine members from across India’s political spectrum, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, Telugu Desam Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). Notable participants include BJP MPs Tejasvi Surya and Bhubaneswar Kalita, Milind Deora of Shiv Sena, and former Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
According to The New Indian, the delegation—designated as Group 5 under the wider Operation Sindoor framework—will tour the United States, Panama, Brazil, Colombia, and Guyana. The Guyana leg is expected to include engagements on energy security and discussions to deepen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in light of India’s growing investments in Guyana’s energy sector.
The Deccan Herald reported that Operation Sindoor involves seven multi-party delegations comprising 59 members travelling to 32 countries. The initiative forms part of India’s global diplomatic outreach to build stronger alliances on key international issues, including climate resilience, development, and counter-terrorism.
