A 31-year-old motorcyclist has died days after being involved in a serious accident along the Strathspey Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Jermaine Waldron, a resident of Lot 33 South Haslington, succumbed to his injuries on Friday while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). His body is currently at the GPHC mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The accident occurred on Monday in the vicinity of the Lin Min Chinese Supermarket. It involved a motorcycle driven by Waldron and a motor car bearing registration number PPP 109, which was driven by a 44-year-old man from Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
According to police inquiries, the car was travelling west along the southern lane of the Strathspey Public Road, while the motorcycle was heading east along the northern lane. As both vehicles approached the supermarket, the car reportedly turned right into the path of the motorcycle. Waldron fell onto the roadway and collided with the right side of the car.
Public-spirited citizens assisted the injured motorcyclist, who was picked up in a conscious state and transported to the GPHC in an unknown vehicle. He was later admitted for treatment.
The scene was visited by investigators, and the car driver was initially arrested. A breathalyser test returned a reading of 0.000 per cent, indicating no alcohol consumption. The motor car was lodged for examination, and the driver was subsequently released on bail.
Following Waldron’s death, the driver of the motor car was re-arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue.
