
A tragic road accident in the early hours of Saturday has claimed the life of 23-year-old Kellon Summers, a motorcyclist of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Police in Regional Division 10 are investigating the fatal crash, which occurred around 01:40 hrs on Burnham Drive Public Road, Wismar, Linden.
Reports indicate that Summers, who was not wearing a safety helmet at the time, was riding motorcycle CP 6059 northbound at a high speed when he collided with a motorcar, PWW 2029, driven by a Lieutenant Colonel of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
According to police, the GDF officer was heading south and negotiating a right turn when the collision occurred, impacting the left front door of the vehicle. Summers was thrown onto the roadway and sustained severe injuries.
Public-spirited citizens rushed the injured man to the Linden Hospital Complex, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is currently at the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home’s Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is pending.
Both vehicles have been lodged at the Wismar Police Station for examination by a licensing and certifying officer. The GDF officer remains in custody as investigations continue.
