Protesters today blocked sections of the Half Mile and One Mile Public Roads at Wismar, Linden, demanding justice for Adrianna Younge.
Debris, including tyres, rocks, branches, old fridges, and other items, lined the roadways, obstructing the smooth flow of traffic along one of the main thoroughfares in the community.
Fires were also lit using tyres and debris, forcing many persons to walk to their destinations, while vehicles were turned back by protesters.
Some businesses at the Mackenzie arcade remained closed, with reports of several attempted break-ins.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Region 10 community issued a joint statement urging those involved in unlawful acts to desist.
The statement from elected leaders—including Vice Chairman Mark Goring, MPs Devin Sears and Jermaine Figueira, Mayor Sharma Raheem Solomon, Deputy Mayor Dominique Blair, and Regional Chairman Deron Adams—acknowledged the community’s grief and called for accountability and reform, while rejecting acts of lawlessness.
“We stand united in our grief and, more importantly, in our unwavering demand for accountability, justice, and reform. We also acknowledge the deep pain and uncertainty gripping our community in Linden and Region Ten in light of the recent tragic deaths of Ronaldo Peters and Keon Fogenay,” the statement said.
It further condemned those who, under the guise of protest, have engaged in looting, property destruction, and violence, warning that such acts undermine the cause and delay justice.
“Let us be clear: these acts do not honour Adrianna, Ronaldo, or Keon. They do not reflect the values of our people. They are not justice; they are distractions from it. At this critical moment, we urge all residents to respect the rule of law. Peaceful protest is a fundamental right in any democracy, but looting, damage to public property, and acts of violence threaten to derail our pursuit of justice and risk provoking confrontations that place more lives in danger. If these disruptions continue, they will not only delay justice but also severely affect the daily lives of Lindeners, interrupt access to healthcare, education, transportation, and essential public services, as well as severely affect our own children who are preparing for or writing CXC and CAPE examinations,” the statement continued.
The leaders urged the community to remain vigilant against those who may exploit the current climate to incite division, urging residents not to let mischief-makers derail their shared goals.
“This is how we build a legacy worthy of Adrianna’s name. Let us make our voices impossible to ignore—not with violence, but with vision. Justice is our right, and peace is our power. As your elected representatives, we stand with every citizen demanding justice and answers. The process toward justice has begun, and we must remain vigilant to ensure it is thorough, transparent, and impartial,” the statement concluded.
