Law enforcement authorities have ramped up operations across Guyana, arresting over 100 individuals and seizing 37 motorcycles in the past 24 hours, as part of efforts to restore public order following days of unrest triggered by the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge.
According to a police release, the arrests were made for various offences, including robbery under arms. The 37 motorcycles seized were allegedly used to commit crimes during the unrest, and charges are expected to be laid against those in custody.
The Guyana Police Force has also issued wanted bulletins for several individuals believed to be involved in recent criminal activity.
The heightened police activity comes as the Joint Services continue to maintain a strong presence across all 10 administrative regions, aiming to stabilise the situation and prevent further acts of violence or criminality.
On Monday, the Minister of Public Works joined the Joint Services in clean-up efforts in affected areas, as part of broader efforts to return the country to normalcy.
Authorities are urging the public to cooperate with ongoing security operations, with the Guyana Police Force reaffirming its commitment to public safety and the rule of law.
