The Guyana Police Force Office of Professional Responsibility and the Regional Security System (RSS) have completed their investigation into the alleged fatal shooting of Ronaldo Peters.
According to a release, the case file is expected to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions by 23 April 2025 to obtain legal advice.
“Additional witnesses in the fatal shooting of Keon Fogenay are expected to be interviewed today by investigators in order to complete the case before the file is submitted. The RSS is also expected to submit a report containing findings and recommendations,” the release noted.
Peters was fatally shot by a policeman in Linden on Monday, 7 April 2025. Police, in a statement, said he was wanted for rape and was accidentally shot while attempting to escape from a policeman who arrested him.
Keon Fogenay was shot and killed during a protest the following day in response to Peters’s killing.
The shooting deaths sparked anger in the mining town of Linden, Region 10, resulting in fiery protests from residents.
President Dr Irfaan Ali had, at the time, promised a full investigation into the shootings and has since met with the families of the deceased.
The police, in an earlier statement, had informed that the officers involved in the shootings had been placed under close arrest and are being investigated.
The investigation conducted by the RSS is in keeping with President Ali’s commitment to the residents of Linden for an impartial investigation into the matter.
