Track record, credibility key in upcoming elections, says Jagdeo

Guyana’s Vice President (VP) and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, said that this year’s election campaign will focus on which party can effectively deliver on its manifesto promises.
Speaking at his weekly press briefing at Freedom House, which was broadcast live, he criticised A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), accusing it of failing to fulfil its commitments, particularly to the youth, during its time in office.
“The point I am making here is that people can put any nonsense on a piece of paper and share it around. First of all, these are not plans they are putting forward—it’s more political slogans to fool the electorate. They have no plan whatsoever. A plan must be well thought out and must show a source of wealth generation beyond simply spending revenue. Clearly, the electorate will recognise this more and more as we approach the elections,” Dr Jagdeo said.
He emphasised that believability and credibility in delivering on promises will be key factors in this year’s elections. He assured that the government remains committed to fulfilling its manifesto commitments.
Dr Jagdeo also highlighted the PPP’s proven track record of delivering on its manifesto promises, noting that the party has successfully implemented all its planned initiatives this year.
