In a continued effort to provide affordable housing and stimulate regional development, the Ministry of Housing and Water has allocated over 300 house lots in Moleson Creek and Hogstye, Region Six.
This initiative forms part of the government’s ‘Dream Realised’ housing drive, which aims to address the increasing demand for homeownership opportunities in Berbice.
The Moleson Creek Housing Development spans approximately 1,000 acres and is strategically located near the proposed Guyana-Suriname bridge. The area is envisioned as a modern township featuring residential lots, schools, government offices, commercial spaces, and recreational facilities. The goal is to transform Moleson Creek into a vibrant hub for economic and social growth in Region Six.
This latest allocation builds on previous distributions in the region. In October 2024, the government allocated the first 1,000 house lots in Phases 1 and 2 of the Moleson Creek development, marking a major step in expanding access to affordable housing and improving infrastructure in the area.
While large-scale allocations in Hogstye have been less common in the past, the inclusion of the community in this round of housing distributions signals a significant push to expand homeownership opportunities. The move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to meet the growing demand for residential land across Region Six.
Region Six currently has approximately 7,000 pending housing applications, reflecting the urgent need for housing solutions. Between 2020 and 2024, the government allocated 1,354 lots in the region—an exponential increase compared to the 383 lots distributed by the previous administration over five years. The government remains committed to delivering 10,000 house lots annually from 2020 to 2025, working towards a total of 50,000 allocations.
