International Solar Alliance (ISA) Director General Designate, Ashish Khanna, has reiterated the organisation’s commitment to assisting Guyana with system optimisation and expert guidance in expanding its renewable energy capacity.
He gave the commitment during a meeting with Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, according to a Facebook post on the PM’s official page on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Phillips is currently in India and has met with a high-level team from the ISA to discuss advancing Guyana’s renewable energy agenda and strengthening cooperation in sustainable energy development.
The Indian delegation also expressed appreciation for Guyana’s continued support of the ISA and its commitment to clean energy initiatives. Both parties also expressed enthusiasm for deepening collaboration. The ISA confirmed its readiness to provide technical support and facilitate investments that will bolster Guyana’s renewable energy ambitions.
Khanna also commended Guyana’s leadership in addressing food, energy, and climate security at the international level.
Meanwhile, ISA Director General, Dr Ajay Mathur, during the meeting, reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to support Guyana’s energy transition efforts.
Prime Minister Phillips provided a detailed overview of Guyana’s multifaceted energy diversification strategy to the ISA team. He emphasised the government’s commitment to developing a robust and sustainable energy ecosystem, giving examples of key initiatives such as the successful Lethem Solar project, the upcoming Gas-to-Energy initiative, and planned developments in solar, wind, and hydroelectric infrastructure.
The ISA is a global intergovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting solar energy solutions and sustainable development worldwide. It works to enhance energy access and foster solar technology adoption through international partnerships.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2025 in New Delhi, which the Prime Minister is currently attending, he met with India’s Union Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, and shared commitments on areas of climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.
The officials also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnerships in sustainable energy and environmental resilience.
