Police are searching for a male suspect captured on CCTV footage entering and exiting the Ministry of Housing Annex in Georgetown last night.
In a press release, police stated that, so far, nothing has been reported missing or stolen.
Investigations revealed that the annex is a three-storey concrete structure housing several offices.
It has two glass doors—one on the western side and another on the north-western side—both secured with safety latches.
The building is equipped with CCTV cameras and is guarded 24/7 by personnel from Elite Security Service.
According to police, at 20:00 hrs last night, a 22-year-old Office Assistant employed by the Ministry of Housing secured the building using the provided mechanisms and lodged the keys at the Guard Hut at the Ministry of Housing Head Office on Brickdam.
At 07:00 hrs this morning, the Office Assistant retrieved the keys and, shortly after, a cleaner arrived for work.
Upon entering the middle floor of the building, the cleaner discovered that a door to one of the offices was open and the office had been ransacked. She immediately informed the Office Assistant.
Detectives reviewed CCTV footage, which showed that at 00:22 hrs on Monday, a male of African descent, wearing a black jersey and green three-quarter pants, rode up from the western side of Brickdam on a blue BMX bicycle.
He then turned north and stopped in front of the Ministry of Housing Annex.
The footage further showed that the suspect entered a compound located south of the Annex. At 00:45 hrs, he was seen exiting the western side of the Annex, carrying a black haversack and a white box.
He then mounted his bicycle and fled north on United Nations Place, then east on Coral Street, making good his escape.
A search around the building revealed that a casement window in the IT room on the middle floor was open, but there were no visible signs of forced entry.
Police have interviewed several individuals as investigations continue.
