Man arrested after woman’s body found floating in trench

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a West Coast Demerara woman whose body was found floating in a trench, police said Friday.

Shavannie Hanoman, called “Bo,” 46, a housewife of De Groot-EnKline, Uitvlugt, was reported missing after she failed to return home on Wednesday.

The following day, her body was discovered in a trench at De Groot-EnKline. Police, summoned to the scene, retrieved the body, which was subsequently identified as Hanoman.

Injuries were observed about the neck and other parts of her body. She was transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced her dead on arrival.

Her body was subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect, of De Groot-EnKline, Uitvlugt, remains in police custody as investigations continue.
