Teen sentenced to two years for break-in and theft

A 19-year-old man was on Monday sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to a break-and-enter and larceny charge at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on the Essequibo Coast.

Kobe Stephen admitted that between August 17 and 18, 2025, he broke into a general store owned by Naranjanauth Persaud at West Bury Village and stole property valued at G$300,000.

Stephen, a first-time offender, was represented by attorney-at-law Gittens, who asked the court to show leniency, noting that her client pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir of the Essequibo Magisterial District sentenced Stephen to 24 months’ imprisonment.
