Massy Distribution on Thursday launched its 2025 Christmas Giving Tree campaign, announcing that proceeds from this year’s initiative will fund the construction of a dedicated indoor play and recreation area for children admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s (GPHC) pediatric ward.
The project, unveiled at the Massy Megastore at Movietowne Guyana, aims to improve the emotional, psychological and developmental well-being of young patients who often spend extended periods in hospital care.
The launch brought together senior Massy executives, GPHC representatives and officials from the Office of the First Lady, signalling broad national support for the initiative.
Massy Stores Guyana’s General Manager, Christpen Bobb-Semple, said the company was honoured to continue hosting the annual charity drive, noting that the campaign gives customers a direct way to help hospitalized children.
“At Massy Stores, we are very happy to be the home once again for this Massy Distribution Giving Tree initiative… Through their purchases, our customers are able to help those children who are in the pediatric ward—children who, rather than being at home or at school, are in the hospital fighting for their health,” she said.
Customers can contribute by purchasing specially marked Holly Bronz products, with a percentage of sales going toward the playroom fund. Massy Stores also announced that it will match Massy Distribution’s 5% donation, doubling the contributions generated through eligible holiday purchases.
GPHC’s Senior Nursing Manager, Shannon Hynes, welcomed the initiative, stressing the importance of creating a supportive environment for young patients.
“The pediatric ward is more than just a place of treatment. It is a space of healing, comfort and hope… This play area will be a place where a child can smile after a difficult treatment, where families can share moments of relief, and where childhood can continue even inside a hospital,” she said.
This is the second year of the Giving Tree campaign, which has now received endorsement from the Office of the First Lady. According to Massy Distribution’s Sales Director, the initiative forms part of the company’s wider corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and fostering long-term community impact.
Donations and qualifying purchases will continue throughout the Christmas season, with Massy targeting more than $1 million to complete the indoor pediatric play area by early 2026.
