A 32-year-old carpenter and mason, Emmanuel Ramsammy, also known as “Scotty” or “Joel”, of Lot 21 King Street, Belvedere, Corentyne, has been remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of 56-year-old labourer Imran Kadir, popularly known as “Shut Pon Shoulder.”
Ramsammy appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where the charge was read to him. It is alleged that between November 1 and 2, 2025, he murdered Kadir, who also resided at Lot D King Street, Belvedere, Corentyne.
The accused, who was unrepresented by legal counsel, was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The court was informed that the case file remains incomplete and a two-week adjournment was requested to allow for its completion.
The matter has since been transferred to the Albion Magistrate’s Court, where Ramsammy is expected to make his next appearance on November 18, 2025.
According to reports, Ramsammy and Kadir were consuming alcohol together when an argument ensued. The following morning, Kadir was found motionless at his home, and residents immediately contacted the police force.
Meanwhile, investigators discovered that the body bore signs of violence, and a bloodstained piece of wood, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered near the scene.
Police stated that the suspect, a 32-year-old carpenter from the same community, was taken into custody shortly after the discovery.
Neighbour Khemraj Ganputh, who lives a few houses away from the deceased, told reporters that he saw Ramsammy on Saturday afternoon walking into Kadir’s yard with a piece of wood.
Ganputh said the suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and agitated at the time.
Following investigations, police arrested Ramsammy.
