One dead, another injured in bee attack at Triumph

A contractor has died and another man is hospitalised after a swarm of bees attacked a group of road workers on Wednesday at Surat Drive, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Winston Semple, 29, of Prince William Street, Plaisance. Glendon Simpson, 40, of Non Pariel, was admitted to hospital in critical condition.

Police said the men were carrying out road construction works in the area when they were attacked. Public-spirited persons assisted in taking them to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where Semple was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

An investigation is under way.
