A pedestrian was struck and killed late Friday night in a collision on the Rupert Craig Highway, in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy, police said.
The victim, a man of African descent whose identity has not yet been confirmed, died at the scene after being hit by motor car PXX 8048 around 23:30 hrs.
Police said the vehicle, driven by 26-year-old Christopher McPherson, was heading east along the southern drive lane at a fast rate when the pedestrian reportedly ran across the road and into its path. McPherson swerved north but collided with the man, who was thrown onto the roadway and partly trapped beneath the car.
Emergency medical personnel, including Dr Harrykishon, responded and pronounced the man dead on arrival.
A Notice of Intended Prosecution was served on McPherson. A breathalyser test showed no trace of alcohol. He remains in police custody assisting investigators.
