The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has announced the suspension of all registration transactions, including applications for registration, name changes, and transfers, from July 1 to September 14, 2025.

The temporary suspension is aimed at allowing the Commission and its Secretariat to focus fully on preparations for the country’s upcoming General and Regional Elections, scheduled for September 1, 2025.

Despite the suspension, GECOM confirmed that its Registration Offices will continue to process applications for the replacement of national ID cards in cases of loss or damage, as well as requests for photo retakes.

The elections body said the move is necessary to ensure a smooth and efficient conduct of the electoral process.
