Students in Grades 11 and 12 will be able to access study materials, sit theory driving examinations and receive results online, following the launch of a driver's licence portal on Friday.

The Guyana Digital School launched the portal at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre. Education Minister Sonia Parag said it was a step towards modernising and digitising services.

"For the first time, we are bringing driver's education into our school system, and that's something you should applaud because you who are going to be graduating from CSEC and CAPE in 2027 will have the benefit of writing these exams for the first time in the school system. You will be the first batch and therefore creating history," she said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Mahendra Singh said the initiative reflected a commitment to transparency and accountability in the administration of the learner driver programme.

He said the process had evolved from classroom lectures and handwritten examinations to computer-based tests at designated centres countrywide, and now into the digital education system. The initiative would also expose young people to road safety principles, traffic laws and responsible road use before they begin driving, he said.

Singh added that the scheduling of practical examinations would eventually be done through the same portal.

"This transformation…reflects the government of Guyana's continued commitment to transparency, accountability, efficiency and equal access to opportunities by all.

It demonstrates how technology can be used to modernise long-standing systems, improve service delivery and create a more accessible and structured examination process," he said.

The Guyana Digital School will also host customs broker examinations in collaboration with the Guyana Revenue Authority, along with other examinations and a financial literacy programme for citizens.
