A post-mortem examination on six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran was inconclusive, and police are still searching for his missing head and limbs.
Region Five Commander Senior Superintendent Lonsdale Whithrite confirmed on Wednesday that the examination was inconclusive. Orlando's decomposed, headless body was recovered from a canal at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, on Tuesday, five days after he was reported missing on Thursday, October 15.
Police ranks are continuing efforts to locate the missing remains, Whithrite said.
The child's father and another male, reportedly a pujari, remain in custody as investigators pursue leads and gather evidence. Police have not publicly stated what role, if any, the second man is suspected to have played in the child's death.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said the incident reportedly occurred on October 15 at the Waterloo Main Canal, West Coast Berbice. Further enquiries on Tuesday, led to the recovery of several items of evidential value at the location.
Investigators also searched a residence at Bath Settlement, where six cutlasses and other items were seized. The items have been lodged as exhibits as investigators work to establish their evidential significance.
