Small businesses will get help to expand and reach new markets under National Small Business Week 2026, launched by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Tuesday.
The week, themed "Small Businesses, Big Opportunities", includes business-development workshops and an expo to help micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) grow.
GCCI President Kathy Smith said the initiative will connect entrepreneurs with institutions offering practical guidance on financing, business management, standards and market access.
"We recognise that while many entrepreneurs have good products, services, and business ideas, they often face challenges with financing, business management, purchasing, standards, and access to markets. Through this year's programme, we want to address some of these challenges by connecting entrepreneurs with institutions that can provide practical guidance and support," she said.
The MSME Expo will be held on October 24 and 25 at the Railway Courtyard in Georgetown. It will host up to 100 exhibitors, with free admission.
"Small businesses make a significant contribution to Guyana's economy. They generate employment, support livelihoods, provide services, and contribute to economic activities for our country. Our theme steps further in supporting these businesses on the current stage where opportunities can be created. And this is where initiatives such as the National Small Business Expo come into play," Smith said.
She encouraged consumers to attend and support local businesses, noting that the expo will allow entrepreneurs to showcase products and services, generate sales and build business relationships.
Workshops begin on Wednesday. On Friday, entrepreneurs will share how they started and grew their businesses.
Brava is the principal partner for this year's event.
Since its introduction in 2022, National Small Business Week has helped MSMEs gain exposure, strengthen their capacity and make business connections. The initiative also seeks to strengthen collaboration between the private sector, government agencies and financial institutions.
