Police uncovered nearly 24 pounds of suspected cannabis concealed in buckets on an unoccupied plot of land at Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice, on Saturday.

No one has been arrested in connection with the find, which weighed 23.854 pounds.

According to police, the discovery was made between 5:50pm and 6:10pm on Saturday, during an operation in the area.

During a search of the bushy plot, ranks found six five-gallon buckets, five of which contained black bags wrapped in transparent plastic.

When examined, the bags were found to contain leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The suspected cannabis was taken to the Central Police Station, where it was weighed and lodged.

As the plot is unoccupied, police are continuing investigations to determine who may be responsible.
