A 19-year-old Linden construction worker has been jailed after pleading guilty to robbery under arms and discharging a loaded firearm with intent in Central Rupununi.

Isaiah Green was sentenced to 24 months' imprisonment for robbery under arms and 27 months' for discharging a loaded firearm with intent, Magistrate Nikkisha Logan ruled at the Lethem Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

He was charged under Sections 222(c) and 55(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

The robbery charge relates to an incident on Tuesday, at a general store in Tabatinga, Central Rupununi, committed against a 27-year-old businessman.

The firearm charge relates to an incident on the same day at Bon Success, Lethem, involving a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a Police Corporal, both attached to the Lethem Police Station.

Green was arrested on Tuesday and subsequently charged with both offences.

The charges were initially read as indictable offences, to which he was not required to plead. Following the application of the Administration of Justice Act, they were read again and he pleaded guilty.
