Contributions collected during the Small Business Bureau’s third annual Shop for a Cause Walk and Expo will go towards supporting breast cancer awareness and research at the Cancer Institute of Guyana.

This morning’s awareness walk, which begun at six o’clock at the Kingston Seawall Esplanade, was led by breast cancer survivors as part of the two-day initiative being held under the theme, “Walk with Purpose. Shop with Impact.”

The event, which concludes today, brings together more than 20 small businesses to raise funds for the cause while showcasing locally produced goods and services.

Each participating business supported by the Small Business Bureau will contribute a minimum of $10,000 or 10 per cent of its expo sales. Additional donations will also be collected from SBB staff, walk participants and members of the public.

Chief Executive Officer of the Small Business Bureau, Mohamed Ibrahim told state media that the initiative demonstrates how small businesses can make a meaningful contribution to issues affecting families across Guyana.

Health-awareness booths and government agencies will also be present to share information and provide support to the public.

The expo will open from four o’clock this afternoon until eleven tonight.

The initiative aims to honour breast cancer survivors, remember those who have lost their lives to the disease and promote greater awareness of prevention, early detection and available treatment services.
