Bevon Noble has made history at Noble Drilling Guyana, becoming the company’s first local crane operator. This marks a significant milestone in the advancement of Guyanese talent within the country’s growing offshore oil and gas industry.
Noble is currently the largest offshore drilling contractor operating in Guyana, managing several high-specification drillships supporting petroleum development activities in the Stabroek Block.
Noble’s achievement reflects a journey of steady career progression, skills development and increasing responsibility since he first went offshore in 2021 as a Roustabout, a report by recruitment agency, El Dorado Offshore has said.
It noted that in 2022, Nobel advanced to Assistant Crane Operator, where he continued to build his technical knowledge and gained valuable operational experience. By November 2025, his dedication and development earned him a promotion to Crane Operator, culminating in his historic achievement.
Crane operators play an important role in offshore drilling operations, handling the movement of heavy equipment and materials while working within strict safety and operational procedures. The position requires specialised technical skills, experience and a strong understanding of offshore working environments.
El Dorado said that Noble’s progression into the role highlights the potential for Guyanese workers to move from entry-level offshore positions into highly skilled technical occupations through training, experience and career development.
His accomplishment also comes as Guyana’s petroleum sector continues to expand, increasing the importance of developing a skilled local workforce capable of supporting complex offshore operations.
Noble Drilling operates multiple drillships in Guyana, including the Noble Bob Douglas, Noble Don Taylor, Noble Tom Madden and Noble Sam Croft, under a Commercial Enabling Agreement with ExxonMobil Guyana.
These offshore operations require a wide range of specialised personnel, creating opportunities for Guyanese to develop careers in technical, operational and supervisory roles.
As the industry matures, building local expertise remains important to ensuring that Guyanese workers can participate in increasingly specialised areas of the sector. Progression into roles such as crane operator demonstrates how offshore experience can translate into advanced technical responsibilities.
