Guyanese can now look up a postcode for their address, following the introduction of a system designed to help identify locations and improve the sorting and delivery of mail.

The Guyana Post Office Corporation announced the system to mark World Post Day on Friday, October 9, under the message “Same Address. New Codes.”

The postcode depends on where a person lives and provides an additional detail to help postal workers direct letters and parcels to the correct destination.

It can help reduce confusion, particularly where communities have similar names, and gives residents a location-based code to include when completing address details online.

For anyone accustomed to entering 592 in a postcode field, the new system makes an important distinction: 592 is Guyana’s international telephone code, rather than a postal code.

Residents can find their postcode by visiting the corporation’s online postcode finder and searching for their village, locality or street.

The postcode should be used alongside the full mailing address, including the house number, street and community.
