The Guyana rock community is mourning the loss of 16-year-old Lucas Alencar, a young musician whose passion for music and love for the stage touched those around him.

In a Facebook post, 592 Metal described Lucas as a humble young man with an infectious smile and a deep dedication to his craft. He was, the group said, more than a performer, but a cherished member of the rock family.

"I woke up to sad news. I felt empty all day. Lucas was just 16 and talented beyond his years. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and was so hoping we had many more opportunities together. Condolences to his family. I know this could not be easy at all to accept," said Guyana's reigning Soca Monarch Dianna Chapman.

Lucas died on Wednesday after the motorcycle he was riding crashed on Eccles Access Road, East Bank Demerara.

Police said Alencar, of Green Acres, was travelling west along the southern carriageway of the road, also known as Dumpsite Road, on motorcycle #CL 5461 about 4pm.

Initial enquiries revealed that he was riding at a fast rate of speed when he lost control on a right bend and struck a lamp pole on the median separating the two carriageways.

He fell onto the road and sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead.

His body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
